Scottish Country DanceScottish country dance is the ballroom dance of eighteenth and nineteenth century Scotland. Along with English contra dancing, Scottish country dance is a predecessor of the dance form we now know as square dancing. It survives today both as informal ceilidh (party) dancing and as a dance form codified by the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, based in Edinburgh, Scotland.Several years ago I started taking Scottish country dance classes for recreation and exercise. I find it immensely enjoyable. I have also, at times, found the urge to write new dances irresistible. These pages include new dances that I have written, as well as information on the Royal Scottish Country Dance society and links to other SCD-related sites on the Web. NOTE: Not all my dances are listed or posted here. I have compiled all my dances into a book, which will be available here soon.
